Mobile Suit Gundam
Driven into a corner by the invading mobile suits of the Principality of Zeon, the Federation Forces developed the melee combat MS Gundam based on the development plan known as Operation V, which was intended to turn the tide of the war. This general-purpose mass-produced MS was created as a simplified version of the Gundam, omitting the Core Block system and other advanced features. Due to the emphasis placed on mass production during its development, its performance and generator output are relatively low. Though unable to carry the Gundam's beam rifle, it can use beam weapons despite its low output, and was able to outgun the Principality of Zeon's MS. At the end of the One Year War, it was mass-produced to serve as the main force in counteroffensive operations, and spawned many different variations as the standard MS of the Federation Forces. The RGM series would go on to serve as Federation standbys for many years.
