An experimental fusion plasma cannon for use in fleet battles, developed by the Principality of Zeon to vaporize enemy warships from outside their firing range. Its 200-meter barrel, lined with supplementary injectors, fires a plasmoid discharge with an output of 150,000 kW, enough to destroy a Federation Magellan-class battleship with a single shot. Its maximum range under Minovsky particle interference is approximately 300 km. Even at the outer limits of this range, the Jormungand is ten times more powerful than the largest warship gun. High hopes were held for this weapon, leading to field testing by the 603rd Technical Evaluation Unit during the Battle of Loum. Problems arose, however, one being the high susceptibility of the superheated plasma shots to magnetic interference. A spotter unit was needed to relay target data for precise aiming. The other problem was the introduction of the mobile suit, a humanoid weapon that the military was also developing at the same time. This ultimately deprived the Jormungand of a chance to prove its worth, and it was never fired in battle again.
