A ground combat mobile suit manufactured by the Federation Forces using the production lines of the Gundam Ground Type. This was a precursor to the RGM-79 GM that later became the Federation's mainline machine, and was given the GM name even though its construction was completely different. Though most of its equipment was the same as that of a Gundam Ground Type, it lacked a chest vulcan and backpack, and was given a lower-output generator. By retaining the Luna Titanium armor, however, it provided an overall performance advantage over the Federation's mainline GM. Furthermore, because this machine was created after the Federation had already established a production format, spare parts were readily available, making both maintenance and the supply of parts to each team easier. Large numbers were deployed on the Odessa front and in the attack on the Apsaras development base.
